The OBD will work on most vehicles manufactured in the US since 1996 and in the EU since 2002.

Using the FitCar™ Fleet Management Tool
-
How do I use the Shell Fitcar™ Fleet Management Tool?
Please refer to the Shell Fitcar™ Fleet Management Reference Guide.
-
How are vehicle trips measured?
A trip is measured starting when the vehicle’s ignition switch is turned on and ending when the vehicle ignition is turned off. A trip summary is provided that shows the miles driven, duration, fuel consumption, fuel economy, maximum speed and driver score events. Trip duration includes actual vehicle drive time as well as vehicle idle time.
-
Why does the estimated mileage in the Shell Fitcar™ Fleet Management tool differ from my vehicle's odometer reading?
For vehicles where the odometer cannot be read directly by the OBD device, the system calculates the mileage accumulated in your trips using GPS in the OBD device. It automatically rounds trips to the nearest mile and may result in a disparity between the fleet management tool odometer reading and the actual vehicle odometer reading. Often this issue will be resolved after several trips. If not, please update your vehicle odometer in the fleet management tool manually.
Additionally, blockage of the GPS signals could cause a disparity between the estimated mileage and actual odometer readings. GPS signal reception can be blocked when inside a building, in urban canyons or by terrain features resulting in potential errors in calculating your estimated mileage. If this issue persists, please contact support@fitcar.com.
-
Why does my vehicle have a check engine light on but I did not receive any diagnostic trouble notification in the fleet management tool?
In most instances when the “check engine” or “service engine soon” light is illuminated, it is an indication of a malfunction of the vehicle’s computerized engine-management system triggered by a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) and will result in a notification sent to the fleet management tool. Some older vehicles have a check engine light that illuminates based on the vehicle’s odometer reading regardless of engine operation or without generating a trouble code.
-
Can the Shell Fitcar™ Fleet Management tool tell me the type of oil my car needs (e.g. full synthetic, synthetic blend, conventional, high mileage)?
No but you should visit your nearest Service Center to discuss the best options for your driving style. Please always refer to your owner’s manual for oil change recommendations.
-
What information around my fuel level or consumption can be gathered?
Depending on your vehicle make and model, one of the following* will be captured:
- Current Fuel Level & Average Fuel Consumption in mpg (For vehicles that provide both fuel level & consumption)
- Current Fuel Level (For vehicles that provide fuel level but not consumption)
- Average Fuel Consumption in mpg (For vehicles that provide fuel consumption but not fuel level)
- No Fuel Data (For vehicles that don't provide any fuel data)
*Note: Vehicle specific features based on the vehicle make and model. Trip data for supported vehicles will include fuel consumption to include the gallons of fuel used for the trip and the miles per gallon value.
-
How is my driving score calculated?
The driver score looks at how you drive your car, such as your speed (above 75 mph or 120 km/h), harsh accelerations (above 7.5 miles or 12 km per second) and harsh braking/ de-acceleration (above 8.7 miles or 14 km per second) to provide insights that may help drivers improve their driving style and save on gas.
